Pay Attention: Watch Out For How Upvc Door Handles Is Taking Over And What Can We Do About It
Types of UPVC Door Handles
If your door handle made of uPVC needs replacing it's essential to find the right replacement for your home. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid bar pivoted around a point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply force to the end, the fulcrum will tend to rotate in the direction that the force is applied. This rotation multiplies your force and lets you lift or move objects that would normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever can be moved. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases as the lever gets extended. You can calculate the advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum until the point at which you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and where you will end the lever.
Levers can have a variety of effects based on how the force is applied. For example a lever of class 2 is inclined to turn in the opposite direction when the effort force is applied (like a totter-totter). If you push the door's handle and force it to open, the forces will cause rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They multiply the force by changing small amounts of effort applied over a lengthy distance into greater amounts of force applied over smaller distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move large quantities of cargo. The lever principle is also employed in everyday tools such as crowbars. Hammer claws fishing rods, hammer claws and even your own legs, when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles feature levers on both sides to operate the multipoint locks. These are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be installed on a wide range of materials such as UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for both the outside and the interior doors, with spindles and screws included. They are also available in handed and unhanded versions for different types of users.
These locks can be used to replace the existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lifted to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide a bit more security than standard lever door handles because locking can only be done through the inside with keys.
They're not as secure as a cylinder lock, but they are a cost-effective way to increase the security of your home. The only downside is that they don't have the same level of protection as a cylinder bolt, and therefore won't prevent access from outside if the door has been left open.
The majority of lever pad upvc door handles that we stock are made by the top manufacturers in the industry and are constructed using high quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
These are usually designed to work with the 92mm lock, or a replacement version called a Paddock Lock. They will feature a cylinder with 82mm diameter on the inside, and 62mm outside. They also come with two spindle followers. Some come with the backplate in place, while others are removable for different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the simplest type of door handles. The lever is pushed downwards to operate a simple latch inside the door that can be locked with keys. Some lever privacy handles work in the same way, however with an additional snib, which is similar to the doorknob.
A snib can be very useful tool, especially in homes where privacy and security are important. If your spouse is expected to arrive at home late from work, you can apply the snib to ensure they won't be able to enter until they're ready to come in. This type of handle is also popular for interior doors like bedrooms, where you might need to restrict access from the outside.
In some cases there are instances where snib buttons could cause issues, especially when you have older locks and doors that are warped. If the snib is used in a mistake or by a person who isn't accustomed to it, the door may slam shut and lock you out. In most cases, you can get in by knocking on the door frame or letterbox, but this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. They can be retrofitted to pull handle kits that double turn and come with cover plates that hide existing holes to ensure a seamless installation. The E-LOK application is able to unlock doors with RFID cards or mechanical key. Passcodes are also offered for security and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles to ensure its durability. The handles are made from solid metal and are in compliance with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

This is achieved by using the 'pad-shaped' handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
